Learn more about what microneedling is and its benefits now. Microneedling can boost cell rejuvenation and improve skin tone through collagen stimulation. This procedure is completely safe if you are healthy and the only aftercare is a special moisturizer placed on your skin. As we get older, our skin becomes weaker, drier, and thinner. Over time, there is a decrease in cell density, collagen fibers, elastic fibers, and skin hydration. Sunlight, stress, skin conditions/diseases and smoking can also play a detrimental factor.
If you are noticing your skin beginning to age and don’t like the appearance or texture of unsightly pores and scars, microneedling can help. You may be wondering, “What is microneedling?” This clinical procedure involves micro punctures in the skin with tiny needles. Once healed, this procedure will help improve your overall facial aesthetics and can also help prevent premature aging caused by environmental factors.
There is a reason microneedling works so well. Using microinjuries, the technique allows skin the opportunity to stimulate the production of skin-tightening collagen (your skin begins to naturally repair itself when injured). When aging is involved, cell renewal slows over time and the skin begins to produce less collagen… thus causing the skin to wrinkle and dull. During the healing process, the top skin layer is also renewed giving the skin a fresh and more youthful appearance.
The Amazing Results of Clinical Microneedling
Skin rejuvenation and treatment benefits of microneedling can include:
- Even-toned complexion and pores will look minimized
- Improved skin elasticity
- Reduced sun (and other environmental factors) damaged effects
- Improved/softened appearance of fine lines
- Reduced appearance of scars
The advantages of microneedling compared to other treatment methods definitely make it a procedure that you should consider.
Is Microneedling Safe?
Now that you know a little bit about what microneedling is, you are probably wondering, “Is microneedling safe?” Microneedling has a shorter downtime compared to other methods including peels or laser. It is suitable for all skin types, including darker skin tones. It can have long lasting effects and offers a minimum investment with maximum results. There have been many studies done on microneedling and the good news is that they have all been determined perfectly safe for healthy individuals.
However, if you have sensitive skin or other problems with your skin, you should consult your doctor before choosing to get this procedure. We can also perform a small test before doing the entire face and neck.
After the procedure, you might notice that your skin is slightly reddish and flushed. This means that the procedure is working, and the redness should quickly fade. Having treatment at the end of the afternoon where you can leave makeup free is recommended and you don’t have to worry, “Is microneedling safe?” It is minimally invasive, requiring no downtime.
Now that you know the benefits of microneedling and how it offers rewarding results, you are probably wondering, “What are the steps involved in a microneedling procedure?” First, we will apply a skin product that numbs the procedure area. This removes any pain from the process. It usually takes about 30 minutes to take effect. Second, we will use a pen-like handpiece with a sterile, disposable tip to go over the skin, in different directions, with multiple passes. The dermaroller uses small needles to prick the skin, creating tiny hole patterns, you usually will not be able to notice. The entire process will take about an hour for face and neck. It may take more or less time, depending on your skin’s specific condition. After treatment, you will most likely notice that your skin is red like a sunburn and mild swelling is possible. We will send you home with a post-care balm to moisturize and soothe any skin irritation. You may need four to six sessions to achieve the best results.
Microneedling Aftercare: What You Should Know
The proper microneedling aftercare is important. You should gently clean your face for the first 72 hours with warm water and fingertips only. Hydrating your skin is another part of microneedling post care. And no matter what, we always recommend protecting your skin with sunscreen.
